MyPhone MY28S Android Smartphone Kit Review

Hello! I’m back!

As mentioned on the previous entry, I was sick for an entire week 😦
Who would have thought that at 30, I’ll have asthma!
Now I understand how hard it is to have it, I had a hard time breathing for an entire week >_<

I have a lot of products pending to be reviewed!
I had a LOT of spare time last week but I was too weak to even tweet 😦
Now I’m already well so let me start by reviewing a cheap smartphone 🙂
You don’t have to spend a lot to be beautiful, right?
Now, you no longer have to spend a lot to have a smartphone, too!

My current phone is Sony Xperia T2 Ultra.
My fiance gave it to me as a gift when he first visited me here in the Philippines. But due to some unavoidable circumstances, the said phone could no longer be charged properly. I think there’s an issue with the charging port and I need to have it replaced. I work from 12 noon to 9pm and it’s too hard to find the time to have the phone repaired before and after my shift, so I’ve decided to just buy a second phone, one that is just cheap and simple.

My conditions are: it doesn’t matter what brand or model, as long as I can use it to call my fiance via Facebook call. My budget is 2,000 pesos maximum.

I remember that there’s a MyPhone branch in the SM Hypermarket near my workplace, so I went there during my lunch break yesterday.

I was with one of my agents when I went there and she’s the one to point out a model that costs 1,999 pesos in the poster on the wall. I asked if they have one of those, and they said that they ran out of stock. They, however, have one that only costs 988 pesos. At first I heard it wrong and thought that they have one for 9,888 pesos. To my surprise, it is indeed just 988 pesos!

Price: 888+100 (forced buying of 100 pesos credits lol)
Where to buy: My Phone Outlets. I’m not sure if SMART sells it too.
More details below

The box says it’s only 888 pesos, but since it already comes with 100 pesos’ worth of credits, the total price is at 988 pesos.

They told me that it’s already quad-core, has a main and a front camera, and already contains Android Lollipop. Too good to be true! But damn, it’s true! Hahahaha!

They said that it’s the same model as the 1,999 pesos unit that is already out of stock. But since it’s locked to the mobile network SMART, it’s already way cheaper.

They only allow one phone per person, and I’m lucky I have my agent with me so I had her “buy” 1 unit and I also bought 1, for a total of 2 units. I’ll use one for myself, and will give the other one to my mom. Awesome!

For 988 pesos, you’ll get the following:

– Phone
– Charging cable
– Charging socket
– A pair of earphones
– 2 sim cards (1 Smart, 1 Talk N Text)
– 100 pesos call and text card

I can’t believe that it’s only for 988 pesos! The phone looks OK too!

By the way, the screen also has a screen protector. Complete package!

Here’s a picture of the earphones that came with the package:

It looks decent and not cheap at all! The sound is also good!
Now let me rate the phone 🙂

Pre-installed Applications (3 out of 5)

I reset the phone to factory settings the moment I got home to make sure that I’m starting anew.

The phone contains the following pre-installed applications:
– Facebook (can be uninstalled)
– Viber (can be uninstalled)
– Twitter (can be uninstalled)
– Instagram (can be uninstalled)
– Spinnr (CANNOT be uninstalled)
– Get iflix (CANNOT be uninstalled)
– Pinoy (CANNOT be uninstalled and idk wtf this app is about)

I’m so glad that the phone did not come with a lot of unnecessary applications pre-installed. Those things make the phone slow. But I still want to uninstall that Pinoy thingie.

Other Features (3 out of 5)

The phone also comes with a built-in radio (which I won’t use). I don’t know what other features does it have, nor do I know what other features am I looking for ahahaha!

Camera (3 out of 5)

The phone will never cease to surprise it’s buyer. Both the front and the main camera have flash! Woohoo!

According to the phone specifications, the front camera is at 2MP, while the main camera is at 5MP. Below are the pictures taken by both cameras with and without flash:

Not bad for 988 pesos, right?

Battery (2 out of 5)

At 1450mAh, you can’t expect long battery life. I tested both phones today to see how long would the batteries really last, and below are my observations:

  • I left the house for work at 11am (phone #1 is fully charged, not connected to WiFi, and was not used at all) and when I got home from work at 10:30pm, the battery is still at 89%
  • Phone #2 is connected to WiFi and I used the Facebook messenger for less than an hour, and the battery life diminished by 20%
  • The battery drains fast when connected to WiFi, like really fast. I’m not sure if it’s the same when connected to mobile data.
  • If connected to WiFi and is actively using the internet, the battery would only last 3-4 hours. Again, I’m not sure if it’s going to be the same when connected to mobile data.
  • At standby mode, the batter only drains 13% ever 12 hours, for a total of 26% per day, which means that it would last 4 days at standby.

Performance (2.5 out of 5)

It says quad-core, so it’s supposed to be fast. But even with only Facebook and Messenger installed, there’s already latency. It’s also slow when taking pictures.

When typing, there’s a lag each time you click on the bar where you type the characters.

I tried saving pictures from Facebook Messenger and even though it says “Image Saved”, you won’t find the image everywhere lol

Overall, I won’t even get the average score I gave the different aspects of the phone. Instead, I’ll give it a full 5 points.

Why? It’s not perfect, it’s not the best, but it’s only 988 pesos and it comes with complete accessories plus 2 sim cards and a 100 pesos phone credits. What other phone could surpass that for the price? Yes, iPhones are the epitome of smartphones but are they worth the money?

This phone is worth the money!

It’s the best 988 pesos I have spent on a material thing so far!
